What Can You Learn from These Sites

Phew! That was a long list and it took me hours to put together.

There’s a lot you can learn from these sites and how they’re making money in unknown niches.

1. There’s a LOT of Money Outside the MMO Niche

There’s not a single site in this list that tells you how to make money online. And all of them are not only making good money but also sold for high five figures.

Clearly, there’s a fortune to be made outside the MMO niche if you’re willing to put in the work and find unconventional niches with a passionate following.

2. You Need to Solve Problems to Make Money

Nobody will give you their hard earned money just because you want it. Nobody cares about your troubles, your financial situation or your increasing debt.

People only care about themselves and if you want to make money you need to help them solve their problems. Find a need, a problem or a hobby people are passionate about and create content or provide products/services that fulfil those needs.

That is what every site on this list has done.

3. There’s No Substitute for High-Quality Content

Sites with lots of high-quality content sold for significantly higher amounts as compared to thin or one-page niche sites. It’s understandable because content creation and management is a tedious and resource intensive process.

On the other hand, there are a couple of sites on this list that have hundreds of articles but only sold for a modest amount because their content was really poor in quality, provided little value and had lots of grammatical mistakes.

They only found buyers because of the ages of their sites and the number of posts published on them.

4. You Need to Build an Email List

This list once again proves the importance of building an email subscriber base for your business. There are several sites on this list that generate more than 50% of their traffic from their email subscribers. They’re not dependent entirely on search engine traffic. This is an important lesson since there’s a common myth among newbies that email marketing is dead.

5. Facebook Groups are Traffic Goldmines for Niche Sites

Many sites on this list are generating the majority of their traffic from Facebook Groups. A Facebook group allows you to bring together like-minded individuals on a single platform and interact with each other like we’ve done in NicheHacks Facebook Mastermind. This shows that community building around your brand is an important part of affiliate marketing.

6. Niche Marketing is NOT an Overnight Success Formula

Most of the sites on this list that made money with Amazon Associates or Google AdSense are at least 1 year old (most are older). It’s a good indication of the time it takes to set up and establish a blog from scratch in a new niche. When you start a new site, you need to be patient and allow yourself time to succeed.

7. There Are Multiple Ways to Monetize Your Niche Site

Most people assume that affiliate marketing and advertising are the only two ways niche sites can make money.

This is wrong.

Once you identify a need and find a niche that has a passionate following youc an monetize your site in multiple ways.

For example, dropshipping is one of the best ways to monetize your site in a new niche. It doesn’t require any inventory and you can quickly set up a fully automated dropshipping business on Shopify and fulfill them from AliExpress. The whole process can be automated using Oberlo, an app for Shopify stores.

Similarly, if you understand the needs of your niche, creating and selling your own digital products is another very profitable way of making money. All the sites on this list selling digital products have the highest profit margins because they have no overhead costs that are involved in physical businesses.

8. Diversify Your Traffic Sources

You don’t need search engine traffic when you can invest $1 in Facebook Ads and generate $3 of sales. This is what all the successful dropshipping and eCommerce niche sites on this list are doing.

And even many of the sites that make money with Amazon Associates or Google AdSense drive a lot of their traffic from their email lists and Facebook Groups.

9. Turn Your Niche Site Into a Memorable Brand

I was surprised to see the number of sites on this list that are driving most of their traffic from direct and referral sources. Direct traffic means people are visiting the site directly by entering its URL which reflects loyalty.

Branding has a lot to do with building loyalty. Niche sites with strong branding stay longer in people’s minds and increase the number of returning visitors.

Almost all the sites on this list have most of the basic brand elements in place. Most of them are well-designed sites with a logo, a responsive WordPress theme, and proper presentation.

Just shows that you can’t ignore these things in niche marketing.

Have You Found Your Niche?

There are lucrative and profitable niches all around you.

If people can make money in all the weird niches I’ve shared, why can’t you do the same?

You just need to identify a problem that needs to be solved or a hobby people are passionate about.

Need more ideas?

Let’s discuss in the comments.
