Nintendo posted the ‘Star Fox 2’ manual online and it has some bonus surprises

You can’t play with a Super NES Classic Edition yet — and hell, you likely won’t get one at all (lolcry) — but now you can at least read about what you’ll be missing!

In what is almost certainly a troll, Nintendo posted the manual for Star Fox 2 online. This is significant because Star Fox 2 has never been officially released, and will make its debut with the SNES Classic on Sept. 29.

The manual runs through all the stuff you’d expect: story, controls, and basic how-to-play looks at combat, items, and the heads-up display. But there are some surprises as well. Buried somewhere in the manual, for example, are hints to help you find medal collectibles in-game.

Even better: Nintendo packed in a bunch of design documents and sketches from Star Fox 2‘s development, freshly digitized for your enjoyment. Most of the text is in Japanese, but there’s wild stuff to see here even if you can’t read it.

First, browse through a bunch of design documents:

Next, check out sketches of the game’s outer space fighting ships and their walker transformations:

Whether or not you’re getting an SNES Classic (sob), this is a rare glimpse behind the scenes at one of Nintendo’s long-lost relics.
